The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce is pleased to offer a VALUE Series networking and educational opportunity on Tuesday, August 14 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Jesse Smith, Director of Technology for the Knoxville-Oak Ridge Innovation Valley, will be the guest speaker at the lunch meeting.
Smith will be presenting basic information about what carbon fiber is, why it is important and what area industrial recruiters are doing to make Oak Ridge the center of the carbon fiber hub. There is no charge to attend, however a box lunch is available for a cost of $12 for those who request one by Friday, August 10. Chamber membership is not a requirement for attendance.
Carbon fiber is an extremely lightweight and strong substance which is already being used by the aircraft & aerospace, wind energy and automotive industries - just to name a few. The carbon fiber industry is expected to reach $13.2 billion this year and $18.6 billion by 2015.
The session will cover some of the reasons carbon fiber is so important to Oak Ridge including the potential for its manufacturing hub to be the next Silicon Valley and how industrial recruiters are working diligently to make Oak Ridge the center of the carbon fiber universe.
