Second-Annual Dogwood Run to Take Place on April 18
Registrations Being Accepted
The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce and the Roadkill Running Club of Oak Ridge are pleased to announce plans for the second-annual Oak Ridge Dogwood 5K Run. The 5K race will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 in Oak Ridge. The race is an Oak Ridge activity being held in conjunction with the 2009 Dogwood Arts Festival and will include a one-mile walk as part of the course.
Tom Hilton of Y-12 Federal Credit Union and Chairman of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors stated, "I am happy the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Roadkill Running Club to sponsor the second running of this race. The course will offer participants a good walk or run through one of Oak Ridge's beautiful neighborhoods."
Participants are encouraged to pre-register for the Oak Ridge Dogwood 5K Run. Registration forms are available on the Oak Ridge Chamber website (www.orcc.org), the Roadkill Running Club website (www.roadkillrunningclub.com) and the Chamber office. Registration prior to April 10 is $20 per person. After April 10 the fee is $25 per person. Checks should be made payable to the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce.
According to Zane Hagy of the Roadkill Running Club, "The race will take runners through the Briarcliff subdivision and along the greenway near the neighborhood. The course is certified by the United States Track and Field organization (USATF)."
On the day of the event, registration and check-in for the race will begin at 7:00 a.m. in the parking lot of Tara Hills Apartments, 100 Elmhurst Drive. The pre-registration fee includes a limited-edition Dogwood Run t-shirt. Late and event day registrants will receive a shirt while supplies last.
First place prizes will be awarded to the overall first place winner for both males and females; Masters (40+) male and female; Grandmaster (50+) male and female. Additional prizes will be awarded to the following category winners: Athena, first place female; Clydesdale, first place male; Wheelchair, first place; and largest team, first place. The top three male and female finishers will also be honored in the following age categories: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80 and over.
